France | The French tax administration automatically assigns to any natural person with a tax reporting obligation in France, from the first tax return or from the first payment obligation issued, a unique identifier made up of 13 digits and always starting with 0, 1, 2 or 3. The unique identifier is known as NIF (numéro d'identification fiscale) and can be found on: (1) The pre-filled income tax return (la déclaration pré-remplie d'impôt sur le revenu); (2) The income tax assessment notice (l'avis d'imposition à l'impôt sur le revenu); (3) Housing tax document (la taxe d'habitation); (4) Property tax document (la taxe foncière). To obtain the NIF, individuals can contact their public finance center (centre des Finances publiques) |
