At times, certain instruments are not available or tradeable. Here are the 3 most common reasons:
1. Ongoing Corporate Action
During a corporate action, the respective stock is temporarily suspended from trading. As soon as we receive information about an upcoming corporate action, we will make all relevant information available in the app. In addition, you can find out about ongoing or upcoming corporate actions by checking out the company's official website.
After the corporate action is over, it will take some time for the instrument to become tradeable again. To stay updated, we advise you to visit our partner Lang & Schwarz Exchange (LXS) or use our app to check the trading status periodically.
2. Instrument is Delisted
In some cases, an instrument is delisted from the marketplace of our partner Lang & Schwarz Exchange (LSX) (see below for more details). As a result, the instrument is not available in the Trade Republic app. If that is the case, we'll inform you via email and offer you these 2 options:
- Transfer the instrument to a securities account with a third-party bank (if available).
- Continue to hold the security in your securities account with Trade Republic. However, you'll no longer be able to receive current prices for the security or sell the position via Trade Republic. A securities account transfer will still be possible.
3. Suspension and Sanctions
In exceptional situations, stocks are suspended from trading because:
- Listing Requirements: Companies whose shares are listed on a stock exchange must meet certain requirements, such as minimum standards for turnover, market capitalization and reporting. If a company no longer meets these requirements, the stock exchange can temporarily suspend trading or even delist the stock.
- Extraordinary Market Situations: During periods of exceptional volatility or market stress, exchanges may suspend trading in stocks to maintain market stability and prevent excessive panic selling.
- Regulations: Regulators may suspend trading in shares if they have concerns about the Company's financial reporting, business practices or, in some cases, when the political situation requires it.
As Trade Republic has no influence on these situations, we’re unable to tell you when the affected instruments will resume trading. However we strive to keep you updated and will notify you about any developments. It’s also a good idea to check the news or company’s website for updates.
