In the app we show 5 dividend yield values. One for the current year, forwarded yield and historical yields for the last 4 years.
Forward yield is the industry standard when it comes to estimating future dividend yield. The assumption is that a company usually tries to at least keep the latest dividend level.
Forwarded yield is calculated using the latest dividend payment of the company multiplied by the estimated dividend frequency. Afterwards we take the latest closing price of the stock and set it in relation to the estimated dividend amount. Hence this value can fluctuate on a daily basis depending on the stock price.
In addition we exclude special dividends from this calculation as they are not representative of the company's future.
For the Historical yields we collect all dividend payments of the respective year, convert them to € if necessary and divide them using the closing price of the stock for that year. Special dividends are included in the Historical yield calculation.
The dividends are mapped to a respective year using the Pay Out Date. The dividend yield is adjusted for Stock (Reverse) Splits.
Please be aware that those numbers can vary based on the estimation and calculation method and they will only give you an indication.
